Why Floorspace Planning Matters
Space is one of the most critical resources in a shipyard, and during busy periods, it often becomes the bottleneck that limits throughput. Traditionally, supervisors and foremen spend significant time manually planning where work will be distributed across the yard, a process prone to errors and inefficiencies.
Floorspace Planning changes this dynamic by providing granular insight into space allocation, enabling smarter decisions that optimize shipyard throughput. This isn’t just operational, it’s strategic.
What’s New: Floorspace Planning Features
Our Floorspace planning module augments your running planning efforts by including the floorspace utilization at your yard as an added dimension and constraint that’s tracked in near real time. Here’s how it works:
- Floor2Plan captures your building strategy through a project- and process planning. Components (i.e. plates, assemblies, sub assemblies, blocks) within work packages are assigned to distinctive shops or departments as is common.
- Floor2Plan retrieves metadata (width, height, breadth, weight) from either PDM / PLM systems automatically or through user input to determine the floorspace demand per component per stage of completion.
- The floorspace of your shipyard is broken down into specific areas that belong to designated teams, shops or departments. These areas and their Floorspace are recorded in the masterdata of Floor2Plan and can be adjusted by users.
- Dashboards, overviews and insights are provided based on running actuals allowing decision makers to produce scenarios optimize the constraints at the shipyard through looking at near real time actuals.
